About
Patrick Huston
Recurve archer, British number one, and a two-time Olympian at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
I'm from Belfast and now live in Shropshire. I started shooting in 2004 and have competed internationally since 2012, winning medals indoors, outdoors and in field archery.
I'm Chairman of Bowbrook Archers in Shrewsbury. I'm enhanced DBS checked and privately insured as a coach.
I built the Level Up Archery app so the way I train and coach could reach archers well beyond the people I see in person. Coaching on the shooting line is still where I can make the biggest difference to an archer in a single afternoon.
How I coach
A shot that holds up when it matters
Archery is a mental game, but most of what holds archers back is physical. I start with your structure: how the bow sits in your hand, how your body carries the load, and where your shot leaks when you're tired. Then we use your plotting and your scores to check the changes are working.
Competition adds one more problem. When it really counts, almost every archer tries harder, and that extra trying is what breaks the shot. So we build for it.
"The goal of what we're trying to build is a system that's able to withstand that trying more and then still work."Patrick, on the extra trying that competition pressure brings
